Planning Halloween Costume 2010

Those who know me best already know that over the last few years I've re-discovered a love for dressing up at halloween and I always put a decent amount of effort into the details of how my costume and makeup will look when completed.  Two years ago I had an ok attempt at the Grim Reaper, (AKA Death)

and last year I spent over 7 hours shaving my head, applying liquid latex, derma wax and face paint plus an additional 2 or 3 hours painting matchsticks silver and making a leather trench coat in an attempt to make myself look like Pin Head from Hell Raiser.

These were ok and especially the Pin Head costume recieved a fair bit of attention. However, this year I want to make a whole huge leap forward in how realistic the finished FX makeup looks and this year my costume will be......

HellBoy!!!!

I've already started planning and researching methods of how to make a realistic latex or silicone mask that is custom designed to fit perfectly to the contours of my face so I can glue it in place and the whole thing will then flex and twist with every motion of my own face.

So far the plan is to make an accurate 2 piece mould of my whole head then use that to make a replica of my head.  Once I've done that I'll use oil based clay to sculpt how I want the mask to look on my replica head.

At this point I'll make a 2 piece mould of the whole sculpted head and once that mould is made I'll insert the original replica head within the 2 sides of the mould and when I pour liquid latex or silicone into the space between them it should create a full head mask that fits perfectly to my own head and face on the inside but looks like Hellboy on the outside. For a better idea of what I mean see the pics of Ron Perlman being made up below.

This blog is going to hopefully show my progress as I endeavour to undertake this complex task and I'll make sure to take plenty of pictures along the way so for now I'll say.........
